DroneShield appoints Angus Harris as CTO and Angus Bean as CPO

Mon, 20th Oct 2025

DroneShield has announced a series of changes to its technology leadership, including the appointment of Angus Harris as Chief Technology Officer and transition of Angus Bean to the role of Chief Product Officer.

Angus Harris, previously Vice President of Software Engineering at DroneShield, will now lead the company's engineering team, tasked with overseeing technical execution across all product lines. The change comes as part of DroneShield's efforts to respond to accelerating global demand within the defence and government sectors.

Harris brings a background that includes experience with Thales and the Australian Department of Defence. His work history features the delivery of engineering and technology programmes in defence, transportation, and artificial intelligence. Harris has managed national communications and control systems deployment, including projects with Sydney Metro, and has led the development of computer vision solutions for major retailers. His previous responsibilities also covered innovation in software and sensor integration for defence and government applications.

Product focus

The appointment of Harris to the CTO position is part of a broader leadership realignment at DroneShield. Angus Bean, a foundation member of DroneShield's technology leadership, will transition to the role of Chief Product Officer. In this capacity, Bean will be responsible for shaping the company's global product and technology strategy, focusing on innovation and ensuring customer needs are closely integrated with product development processes.

Bean has overseen the development of DroneShield's core technologies from their inception and is expected to continue guiding the company's strategic direction as DroneShield expands internationally. The company noted that the collaboration between Bean and Harris underscores a commitment to continuity and depth across its engineering and product divisions.

Leadership structure

The new leadership structure will see Bean and Harris overseeing a workforce of more than 330 in DroneShield's Product and Engineering organisation. The company says this position aligns with its current growth trajectory and operational requirements.

According to DroneShield, expanding its technical leadership resources is a part of its strategy for scaling up to meet global demand. The company's focus includes large-scale software, hardware, and artificial intelligence-enabled counter-drone and electronic warfare systems.

"Angus Harris has already been performing in a senior technology leadership capacity as VP of Software Engineering, demonstrating technical capability, operational discipline, and collaboration across the business. His appointment as CTO adds to the senior talent bench talent and positions the Company to deliver the next generation of counterdrone solutions, especially as the Company is seeking for SaaS to grow substantially as a proportion of its revenues."

This statement was provided by DroneShield Chief Executive Oleg Vornik, emphasising how Harris's promotion to CTO is expected to further strengthen the company's delivery of counter-drone solutions and its push to expand software-as-a-service as a significant revenue source.

Industry context

The changes come at a time when DroneShield reports increasing demand for its AI-based counter-UAS and electronic warfare solutions from defence, government, and critical infrastructure customers globally.

Reflecting on the leadership transition, the company described the new appointments as a response to the need for increased organisational maturity and to support its next phase of growth. Harris and Bean are expected to ensure continuity and stability as DroneShield continues to invest in the development and deployment of technology for threat detection and response.
