SAS Viya named emerging leader in Gartner GenAI market report
SAS has been named as an Emerging Leader in the 2025 Gartner Emerging Market Quadrant for Generative AI Engineering, with its Viya platform highlighted for strong features and future potential.
The Gartner Emerging Market Quadrants were introduced in 2024 as an addition to the existing Magic Quadrants, aiming to offer up-to-date market insights and frameworks for decision-making in the rapidly developing artificial intelligence and generative AI sector.
These quadrants are designed to help clients navigate the complexities of selecting vendors in the dynamic and fast-evolving GenAI market.
According to the analyst report, "Gartner defines the generative AI engineering submarket as technologies providing full-model life cycle management, specifically adjusted to and catering for developing, refining and deploying generative models (e.g., large language models [LLMs]) and other GenAI artifacts in production applications. This submarket includes platforms for AI orchestration (e.g., model chaining, agent development and RAG architecture accelerators)."
SAS's recognition follows its ongoing developments in generative AI tools, particularly within its SAS Viya data and AI platform.
The platform is acknowledged for enabling users to accelerate productivity, enhance return on investment, and maintain a focus on responsible innovation through embedded GenAI functionalities.
Brett Wujek, Head of Product Strategy for Next-Gen AI at SAS, commented on the growing interest in generative AI among enterprises and outlined the company's approach.
"At SAS, we're seeing enterprises of all sizes looking beyond simple prompting with GenAI to support their growth and productivity," said Brett Wujek, Head of Product Strategy for Next-Gen AI. "We're proud to meet them with several key differentiators: comprehensive lifecycle management, multi-agent orchestration that drives intelligent automation, and mature synthetic data generation to protect privacy, mitigate bias and support model robustness – an increasingly crucial part of the GenAI engineering lifecycle."
SAS Viya has focused on providing automated management of the generative AI model lifecycle, from development and refining to deployment in production environments.
Its capabilities also extend to AI orchestration, which includes chained models and agent development, indicating alignment with the requirements set out in the Gartner report.
The recognition in the Gartner Emerging Market Quadrant comes as organisations globally show a growing interest in utilising generative AI beyond basic functionalities, aiming to improve outputs, address privacy concerns, and enhance robustness of AI applications.
The report specifically identifies lifecycle and orchestration tools as key differentiators for solutions considered in this submarket.
SAS's GenAI solutions, particularly around synthetic data generation, are designed to assist organisations in meeting privacy requirements and reducing biases in AI model outputs. These aspects are seen as increasingly important as both regulations and societal scrutiny on data use and AI fairness expand.
The Gartner Emerging Market Quadrant assessments are based on regular market reviews and provide an analytical framework, but are qualitative in nature. Gartner offers a disclaimer stating, "Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in its research publications, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors with the highest ratings or other designation."
"Gartner research publications consist of the opinions of Gartner's research organisation and should not be construed as statements of fact. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose."
SAS has stated it will continue its work to provide comprehensive support for organisations implementing generative AI, with functions targeted at enterprise scalability, privacy, and governance as the technology continues to mature.
