SmartBear appoints Nate Lewis to drive AI growth & M&A strategy

Today

SmartBear has appointed Nate Lewis as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, with a mandate to advance the company's mergers and acquisitions (M&A) strategy and transformation into an AI-native organisation.

Lewis brings over three decades of experience in leading strategic growth initiatives for both public and private companies, primarily focusing on M&A, divestitures, and strategic partnerships. He is expected to spearhead SmartBear's expansion efforts and foster broader adoption of artificial intelligence across the organisation to drive growth, enhance productivity, and create new value in various functions.

Dan Faulkner, Chief Executive Officer of SmartBear, stated, "Nate brings a rare combination of deep M&A experience and a forward-looking mindset that's exactly what we need as we strategically scale. As Nate leads the charge to transform SmartBear into an AI-native organization, his leadership will help us unlock new growth opportunities and empower our teams across the organization to focus on the work that matters most for software development teams worldwide. I expect Nate's impact to be felt across every function as we move even faster, work smarter, and continue to create more value for our customers and employees."

Prior to joining SmartBear, Lewis held executive roles at several technology and private equity-backed firms including Demandware, Nuance Communications, Corel Corporation, and Stonebridge Associates. Most recently, he served as Chief Development Officer at Sevita, a provider of home and community-based specialty health care services, where he managed the firm's high-volume acquisition programme.

Lewis's background encompasses structuring complex transactions, building and managing high-performing teams, and aligning corporate growth strategies with long-term business value objectives.

Commenting on his new role, Lewis said, "SmartBear's bold vision for growth, both through strategic acquisitions and AI innovation, brings the type of challenges I'm passionate about. I'm excited to join the leadership team to help scale SmartBear and create long-term value during this pivotal time in software development. As AI accelerates how software is built, it's paramount that quality remains at the forefront."

The appointment coincides with a period of heightened innovation at SmartBear. The company recently received recognition in the 2025 Global Tech Awards, where SmartBear API Hub powered by Swagger was honoured in the API category, and SmartBear HaloAI was awarded for its approach to AI-driven software development.

SmartBear provides software quality and visibility solutions through its product suite, which includes the SmartBear API Hub, SmartBear Insight Hub, and SmartBear Test Hub, featuring the HaloAI platform. The company reports that its offerings are utilised by over 16 million developers, testers, and software engineers in more than 32,000 organisations worldwide, including Adobe, JetBlue, FedEx, and Microsoft.

The company has stated its commitment to responsible corporate practice, ethical AI integration and social responsibility, aiming to embed accountability and transparency across its technology stack and wider business operations.
