Vodafone, Netcompany launch global travel eSIM service

Thu, 22nd Jan 2026

Netcompany has partnered with Vodafone to launch a Travel eSIM platform that offers data-only connectivity for travellers across more than 200 destinations.

The companies said the platform activates in seconds through an app and works across 700 partner networks. Vodafone said the service targets travellers who want mobile data without relying on roaming charges, public Wi‑Fi, or buying local SIM cards.

The platform works for Vodafone customers and for people who do not use Vodafone. Users can keep their existing phone number, according to the companies.

Product scope

The Travel eSIM offer focuses on mobile data rather than voice services. It uses embedded SIM technology, which lets users download an eSIM profile onto a compatible device instead of inserting a physical SIM card.

The companies positioned the service for a range of traveller profiles, including "digital nomads, business professionals and tourists". The geographic coverage spans destinations "across continents", according to the announcement.

The platform sits within a fast-growing part of the telecoms market, as operators and specialist providers use eSIM to sell short-term data packages. The segment has also attracted travel brands and fintech companies that bundle connectivity into broader travel services.

Netcompany role

Netcompany developed the platform for Vodafone. The company described its work as covering mobile and web applications and integration with telecommunications systems.

Netcompany, which was founded in Copenhagen, operates as an IT services provider with public and private sector customers. It said it has more than 9,400 professionals.

The project adds to a wider trend in which telecoms operators use external development partners for consumer-facing digital services, particularly where time to market and multi-country deployment create operational complexity.

Vodafone plans

Vodafone has expanded its consumer digital products in recent years, including travel-related services. The Travel eSIM platform gives Vodafone a way to address travellers going beyond the European Union, where roaming terms and pricing differ by market and by operator.

The companies said the new platform reduces the need for travellers to search for connectivity options after arrival. It also sidesteps the need to change a primary SIM for data access while abroad.

Vodafone said the platform moved quickly from initial concept to a broad launch. It also highlighted user experience and reliability as key design goals.

"Through the Travel eSIM platform, developed for our client Vodafone Group, we offer a solution that connects the world in a simple, secure, and seamless way. This is a project that leverages our know-how and proves that technology can make our lives easier, regardless of location", said Christos Kontellis, Country Managing Partner Netcompany SEE.

Vodafone runs mobile networks across Europe and Africa and sells services in other markets through partners. Travel eSIM products typically depend on commercial agreements for wholesale access and on technical arrangements for provisioning and customer support.

"Launching the Travel eSIM platform has been a major step forward in delivering seamless, borderless connectivity to our customers. Working with Netcompany allowed us to move from concept to global rollout at speed, without compromising on user experience or reliability", commented Nick Dutch, Business Owner of Vodafone Travel eSIM.

The companies said the platform is available now across the listed destinations, with connectivity supported through Vodafone's partner network relationships.
