Akeneo has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Product Information Management Solutions, with the assessment citing completeness of vision and ability to execute.

The recognition relates to Akeneo Product Cloud, which is positioned as a platform for managing and distributing product information across sales channels. Gartner's Magic Quadrant places vendors into categories including Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players.

Product information management software has become more prominent as retailers, brands, manufacturers and distributors work to keep product data consistent across online stores, marketplaces, supplier systems and other digital touchpoints. The market has drawn further attention as companies adapt product data for search tools and AI-driven interfaces.

Organisations are handling a growing number of products, markets and channels while new forms of digital discovery reshape how products are presented and compared, Akeneo said. It added that accurate and enriched product information is becoming more important as a result.

Akeneo Product Cloud combines product information management with supplier data onboarding, digital asset management, product activation and product experience intelligence. The system also includes AI-based functions intended to help customers manage product content and prepare it for use across different markets and channels.

Market shift

Akeneo sees a broader shift in how businesses use product information management systems. Rather than treating PIM as a back-office tool for storing and editing product records, some companies now use it as a broader operational layer for merchandising, syndication and channel management.

That shift has commercial implications for sectors with large catalogues and complex product ranges. Retailers and manufacturers often need to adapt descriptions, specifications, media files and compliance information for different countries, languages and selling platforms while maintaining consistency.

Akeneo has expanded its product set beyond core PIM to address those needs. It said the offering now provides customers with a unified base for managing product data, digital assets and related workflows, and highlighted the addition of pricing technology through the integration of PricingHUB.

In a statement, Romain Fouache outlined the company's view of the market change.

"We believe being named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Product Information Management Solutions reflects the progress Akeneo has made in helping complex organizations turn product data into measurable business value," said Romain Fouache, Chief Executive Officer at Akeneo.

He added: "Commerce is entering a new phase. Consumers are discovering products across more channels, and AI agents are beginning to influence how products are found, evaluated, and purchased. That vision is ours alone; it's shared by more than 1,100 of our customers and prospects already leading this shift, and we are delighted to accompany them. Companies need product data that is trusted, governed, contextualized, and ready to perform everywhere. Akeneo gives them that foundation, along with the intelligence and activation capabilities to put it to work."

Broader context

Akeneo's customer base includes brands such as Chico's, TaylorMade Golf and Rail Europe. The company sells its software to brands, manufacturers, distributors and retailers that need to centralise product data from multiple sources before publishing it across commerce channels.

The product information management sector sits at the intersection of eCommerce operations, data governance and digital merchandising. Vendors are increasingly trying to differentiate themselves by linking core data management tools to analytics, automation and workflow systems, as businesses seek better control over product information used in customer-facing environments.

For companies operating internationally, those demands can increase quickly. Product records may need to be adjusted for local regulations, translated for different markets and updated in line with changes to packaging, specifications or pricing. Breakdowns in those processes can affect search visibility, conversion rates and operational efficiency.

Against that backdrop, recognition in analyst rankings can influence procurement decisions, particularly among larger enterprises reviewing software providers for long-term data management projects. Akeneo said the latest ranking reflects a period in which companies are rethinking how product data is organised and used as digital commerce becomes more fragmented.
