Blackline Safety wins USD $1.8m deal for water utility devices

Wed, 24th Sep 2025

Blackline Safety has been awarded a contract valued at USD $1.8 million by a major water and wastewater utility provider in California.

The agreement will see the delivery of over 560 connected safety devices, including the company's G7c wearable gas detectors and Blackline Docks, which facilitate device calibration and charging. The contract also covers four years of self-monitoring services for the utility provider's workforce.

Sector growth

The addition of this major contract expands Blackline Safety's global presence in the utilities sector. Company President and Chief Growth Officer, Sean Stinson, highlighted the significance of the deal for Blackline Safety's ambitions and the increasing uptake of connected safety technologies within critical infrastructure:

"This contract is an important step in our continued expansion across the water and wastewater sector. Our real-time data and monitoring capabilities and top-to-bottom solution set us apart from the competition. This deal reflects the increasing demand for advanced connected safety solutions across essential infrastructure, so help is available when it's needed most."

The four-year service commitment is designed to ensure continuous visibility and increased protection for water utility workers, who encounter a range of occupational hazards. These risks can include gas exposures, confined spaces, potential falls, adverse weather, confrontations with members of the public, and working alone.

Device features

The G7c device, which forms a central part of the order, is specified with several features intended to support worker safety. These include an SOS latch for emergency alerts, fall and no-motion detection, and real-time connectivity, offering a direct response lifeline during incidents.

According to the company, the inclusion of Blackline Docks within the contract will further streamline the process of calibrating and charging the wearable detectors, allowing the utility operator to maintain equipment standards more efficiently.

Sector expansion

Blackline Safety has reported sustained growth within the utilities sector in recent years, with deployments involving organisations in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia.

The company stated that the current contract represents its largest single deal to date within the US water sector. This follows a trend of increasing adoption of cloud-connected safety devices, which utilise data and real-time monitoring to enhance workforce safety and operational visibility for employers.

Utility providers are facing renewed expectations to prioritise employee safety and operational excellence, especially as they adapt to regulatory changes and heightened scrutiny on risk management.

Background

Blackline Safety specialises in connected safety technology, offering a suite of products for hazard detection and real-time worker monitoring. Its offerings include wireless gas detectors, cloud-connected analytics, and area monitoring solutions, with deployments in over 75 countries. The company reports capturing over 300 billion data points globally and initiating more than eight million emergency alerts, reflecting widespread integration of its safety devices in industries where exposure to hazardous environments is common.

The new arrangement with the California water utility is intended to help the organisation manage risks to employees in both routine and emergency situations, utilising data-driven safety devices and ongoing support services. The contract brings Blackline Safety additional growth within the competitive North American utilities market, reinforcing momentum built through previous agreements with other major sector providers internationally.
