CSL Group has acquired US IoT connectivity provider SIMPL Wireless, expanding its presence in North America.

Based in Duluth, Georgia, SIMPL Wireless provides eSIM connectivity services for internet of things deployments. The acquisition gives CSL Group a US operating base, carrier relationships and a local team as it seeks to widen its reach in the market.

The transaction is CSL Group's second acquisition this year, following its purchase of IoTM Solutions in July. Combining SIMPL's eSIM platform with CSL's managed connectivity services and rSIM resilience technology is expected to extend the group's offering to customers in sectors including building security, healthcare, infrastructure, utilities and transport.

CSL Group manages more than three million connections across those markets. The business is backed by private equity firm ECI Partners.

North America push

For CSL Group, the acquisition is another step in building a larger presence in the US market. SIMPL Wireless will continue to serve its existing customers, carriers and partners under its current brand as part of CSL Group, and its team will join the wider business.

SIMPL's offering centres on fast activation and the ability for customers to add or switch carrier profiles over the air. Its Compass platform provides a dashboard and API for activating, monitoring and managing SIMPL SIMs alongside third-party carrier SIMs, with network visibility and automated self-healing functions.

The rationale for the deal reflects a broader shift in enterprise requirements as connected device estates grow across borders. Businesses increasingly want to manage multiple SIMs, contracts and networks from one system while retaining the option to move between carriers depending on where devices operate.

Jason Morrow set out SIMPL's position on the transaction. "SIMPL was built on three ideas: speed, simplicity and control. IoT connectivity should be fast to activate, run on what customers already have, and stay theirs to control - it should just work. Joining CSL Group puts that on a platform engineered for uptime and backed by three decades of critical connectivity expertise. For our customers, nothing changes on day one except what we can now offer them," said Morrow, chief executive officer of SIMPL.

Combined offer

SIMPL adds a US-based eSIM platform to CSL Group's existing services, while IoTM Solutions contributes connectivity orchestration. Together, the combined model is designed to let customers choose networks, manage SIMs and eSIMs centrally, and maintain service if one network fails.

CSL Group's existing rSIM product is intended to provide multi-network resilience for applications where downtime can have operational consequences. That positioning has underpinned the group's focus on what it describes as critical connectivity markets.

Ed Heale linked the acquisition to customer demand for both network choice and service continuity. "Customers shouldn't have to choose between flexibility and resilience. Bringing SIMPL into CSL Group gives us a home in North America and a platform that lets customers connect anywhere, with the certainty critical applications require," said Heale, chief executive officer of CSL Group.

ECI Partners, which backs CSL Group, also framed the purchase as part of the company's expansion in the US and the wider IoT market. The investor manages approximately £3 billion and typically backs mid-market businesses.

Daniel Bailey commented on the strategic logic behind the deal. "We're delighted to welcome SIMPL to CSL Group, bringing more flexibility and connectivity to customers, as well as supporting CSL to accelerate its growth in the US market. As resilience in connectivity becomes front of mind for enterprises, this acquisition represents an important milestone in the growth trajectory of the combined businesses," said Bailey, partner at ECI Partners.
