DigitalOcean has launched Agent Droplets, a monthly subscription service for AI agents that packages its Managed Agents offering into fixed-price plans.

The service has two tiers: Pro at USD $50 a month and Team at USD $200 a month. According to DigitalOcean, the plans bundle resources at discounts of 15% and 20% respectively.

Agent Droplets combine a managed runtime, access to more than 16,000 tools, serverless inference, and persistent memory and storage. The goal is to give customers a simpler pricing structure as they begin building and running AI agents.

DigitalOcean is also introducing Inference and Agents Balance, a prepaid balance for certain agent-related services. Customers can fund it with amounts from USD $5 to USD $500 and use it after an Agent Droplet allowance has been exhausted.

The launch builds on Managed Agents, which entered public preview in September. That service provides the underlying components for agent execution, tool access, and inference on DigitalOcean's cloud platform.

Pricing model

Customers on the new plans can run as many agents as needed within the included allowance, with no seat-based charges. They can also choose whether usage stops at the plan limit or continues at standard list prices after the allowance is used.

DigitalOcean is positioning the model against both seat-based AI coding subscriptions and do-it-yourself agent stacks that require multiple suppliers and separate billing. A single plan is intended to give users a clearer starting budget and more direct control over additional spending.

Under the bundle, customers receive access to Harness Runtime, which uses dedicated microVM sandboxes for agent execution. In DigitalOcean's testing, these sandboxes start in about a second, resume from pause in about 300 milliseconds, and pause automatically when idle.

The plans also include access to DigitalOcean-hosted open models through its Inference Engine, including Kimi K3 and GLM 5.3. Frontier models such as Claude and GPT remain available on a pay-as-you-go basis at list price.

Another element is Action Gateway, which provides governed access to more than 16,000 tools. These include code interpreter, browser automation, web search, and web fetch, while credentials are handled outside the agent.

Security features

All plan sizes include unlimited agents, observability features, and a security package with single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, role-based access, audit logs, cloud firewalls, and DDoS protection.

The new product is available in all regions where Managed Agents is offered. Existing agents running on Managed Agents can move to an Agent Droplet without changes, according to DigitalOcean.

Vinay Kumar, Chief Product and Technology Officer at DigitalOcean, described the product as an effort to reduce complexity in the adoption of agent-based software.

"Fourteen years ago a Droplet made the cloud something one developer could understand and afford, and a generation of companies got built on it. The Droplet was never about a server or a VM. It was about the moment you have an idea at 11 p.m. and want it running before you go to sleep. Agents should feel like that. An Agent Droplet is one subscription for everything an agent needs. We take the guesswork out of adopting new agent technologies and managing spend, so companies can start their journey with DigitalOcean and scale it with us. You pick a size and start," Kumar said.

New users can begin with a free trial that includes USD $5 in credit. DigitalOcean said the credit is intended to let developers test an initial agent session before moving to a paid plan.
