Grafana Labs has opened the Grafana Marketplace for commercial plugins. It is now generally available in the Grafana catalog for Grafana Cloud users.

The move lets verified partners build, sell and maintain commercial plugins within the Grafana ecosystem, with one-click trials and monthly subscriptions through Grafana Cloud. The new marketplace sits alongside the existing plugin catalog rather than replacing free and open source routes for developers.

Grafana's plugin catalog already includes more than 300 data sources, panels and apps contributed by the company, software partners and the open source community. The new commercial route gives developers a way to generate revenue from plugins, while partners remain responsible for support.

Grafana reviews every marketplace listing before release. Plugins must be cryptographically signed, must not collect user information, and must encrypt sensitive data.

Partners are also vetted by Grafana and must maintain compatibility with supported Grafana versions. Grafana handles billing and payment support, while customer support for the plugins comes directly from the partner behind each listing.

Ash Mazhari, Vice President of Corporate Development at Grafana Labs, said the aim was to widen customer choice and expand developer access to the Grafana user base.

"We want customers to have more choice in how they monitor their most critical infrastructure and extend Grafana to fit their unique use cases, while giving developers new ways to build for and reach the Grafana ecosystem," Mazhari said.

"The Grafana Marketplace brings those two sides together, making it easier for customers to find solutions built for their specific needs and for developers to bring purpose-built capabilities directly to the teams looking for them. It's another way we're expanding what's possible with Grafana and making the platform even more extensible."

Early listings

The first commercial plugins cover network and security, storage and virtualisation, productivity and collaboration, cost management, industrial infrastructure and manufacturing quality analytics.

Crest Data accounts for a large share of the launch catalog, with plugins for FortiGate, Cisco ASA, Cisco ISE, Cisco Meraki, several Zscaler services, Akamai, Proofpoint, Wiz and Tanium, as well as NetApp ONTAP, Dell PowerScale, VMware, SharePoint, Citrix Cloud, Citrix DaaS, Tableau and Zoom.

Other early partners include Phenisys, which offers Microsoft Teams observability; Integration Plumbers with Kubecost and Nutanix; Helin Data with AVEVA CONNECT; and KensoBI with three manufacturing analytics plugins.

The marketplace reflects Grafana's long-standing strategy of integrating with existing tools rather than replacing them. The addition of paid listings is intended to create a commercial model for developers willing to maintain production-ready integrations over time.

That has been a constraint for plugin developers, because building and maintaining connectors for operational systems often requires ongoing engineering and support work. By adding subscriptions and handling the commercial transaction through Grafana Cloud, Grafana is trying to reduce the friction smaller suppliers face when selling infrastructure software.

One launch partner said distribution and procurement have traditionally slowed adoption.

"Distribution is the hardest part of selling infrastructure software," said Christophe Netillard, Chief Executive Officer of Phenisys.

"A team that wants Microsoft Teams observability has historically had to justify a new vendor, complete a security review and open a procurement cycle before they could use it. Through the Marketplace, they install it from the Grafana catalog, trial it and pay for it on their existing Grafana Cloud invoice. Grafana Labs carries the commercial relationship, which means the evaluation comes down to whether the product works. As a small boutique company, that is the only question we ever wanted to be judged on."

Crest Data linked the launch to demand from larger customers for operational, security and compliance integrations within existing monitoring environments.

"Crest Data has been developing enterprise integrations for years, giving us a deep understanding of what enterprise customers need to address their operational, security and compliance requirements," said Malhar Shah, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Crest Data.

"Our presence on the Grafana Marketplace brings this experience to Grafana through enterprise-grade plugins designed to unify IT and security monitoring, helping organizations build a more connected and comprehensive approach to observability."

Integration Plumbers said the marketplace offers direct access to Grafana's user community for specialist plugin builders.

"We've spent years building observability integrations, and Grafana has one of the most engaged communities in the space," said Chris Noordyke, Chief Executive Officer of Integration Plumbers.

"The Grafana Marketplace opens that community to partners who want to build for it seriously. As a launch partner, we can put our plugins in front of the teams who need them most, on the platform they already trust, and we're proud to be part of it from the start."
