MAVI has launched an AI-driven finance talent platform for US companies, connecting employers with more than 3,000 pre-vetted finance and accounting professionals across more than 20 countries.

The San Francisco-based business also handles onboarding, compliance and payments after a match is made. Its customers include private equity and venture-backed companies, public companies and Chief Financial Officer advisory firms. Named clients include Athena Club, MotherDuck and Within.

The launch comes as finance teams face a tighter labour market for skilled staff. MAVI cited Bureau of Labour Statistics data showing unemployment in business and financial operations occupations at about 2.7% in 2025, compared with 4.3% across the total workforce.

Survey data included in the announcement pointed to mounting hiring pressure. According to the Controllers Council, 61% of finance leaders reported a talent shortage in 2026, up from 46% in the previous year's survey.

Controller and assistant controller positions were identified as the hardest roles to fill by 44% of respondents, followed by accounting and bookkeeping roles at 34%. The same report linked rising pay to shortages and competition for experienced professionals.

Hiring pressure

Companies have used MAVI's network to hire finance professionals in as little as five days, according to the company. Its internal comparisons also show the model can reduce annual talent costs by 50% or more compared with equivalent US-based roles, including fees and compensation for professionals.

The company has operated since late 2023 without a broad public launch. Over the past year, annual revenue has more than tripled, and it now supports several hundred active engagements, according to MAVI.

MAVI positions itself as an alternative to traditional staffing by combining software with human review. Its system assesses candidates on finance experience, technical skills and working style against a client's systems, workflows, culture and role requirements.

Technology supports the initial evaluation and matching process, while MAVI's team reviews candidates before presenting a shortlist. The company remains involved after placement rather than acting as a one-off recruiter.

MAVI said it has received hundreds of thousands of applications to join its network and accepts about 2% of applicants. In 90% of completed placements, customers selected one of the first two candidates recommended, according to the company.

AI and oversight

The launch also reflects a broader shift in finance work as AI becomes more common across large businesses. MAVI pointed to Deloitte research showing that 93% of large companies surveyed in 2026 used AI across multiple functions and operations, while 43% of Chief Financial Officers said they were confident in their AI governance.

At the same time, the company argued that the spread of AI has increased the value of experienced staff who can review and challenge machine-generated output. It cited a survey by the Financial Modeling Global Leaders Council in which none of the financial modelling professionals surveyed said they were confident relying on an AI-generated financial model for a high-stakes business decision without independent human review.

One customer highlighted the technical standard of workers sourced through the platform.

"The skillset of the talent is incredibly strong and technical fluency is a real strength among MAVI's professionals. Their team has a great knowledge of what we need them to do and the tools we use," said Steve Nolan, Director of Financial Operations at Public.com.

Another customer pointed to internal AI-related work carried out by staff hired through the service.

"Talent we hired from MAVI have developed some of our most impressive AI work," said Zach Spicer, Corporate Controller at Crisp. "We have an AR dashboard now used across the organization, built almost entirely by talent from MAVI."

Molly Liu, Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of MAVI, said the company was built in response to staffing strain on accounting teams.

"At Ramp, I worked closely with controllers and saw first-hand how the talent crisis was impacting accounting teams during month-end," said Liu. "We built MAVI because the answer isn't fewer people. It's better access to the right people, wherever they are."

Aman Puri, Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of MAVI, said finance team structures are changing as automation takes on more transactional tasks.

"We think the finance team of the future looks structurally different from the finance team of today," said Puri. "As AI takes over the transactional work in finance, the people who review it, question it, and own the outcome matter more than ever. MAVI's talent engine is AI-first, globally distributed, and based on a hybrid team model that combines a core group of U.S.-based finance leaders with highly skilled global finance professionals who know how to direct AI instead of merely executing the tasks it automates. That's the team we help our customers build."
