MIDEO’s advance care platform registers 1,000 USACS staff
MIDEO Health has surpassed a significant milestone with over 1,000 employees of US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) now registered with its video-based Advance Care Planning platform.
The MIDEO platform, named My Informed Decision on VidEO, allows patients to create video advance directives following consultation with a physician, offering clarity and ease of access to care preferences for healthcare providers.
"For too long, the healthcare industry has pushed patients to talk about death. But the reality is that ACP is just as much about how you live as how you die. We created MIDEO because patients need a way to be heard. Advance care planning should be focused on ensuring people can safely navigate a fragmented healthcare system and make informed choices at every step of their medical journey." Ferdinando L. Mirarchi, Emergency Medicine Physician and Founder of MIDEO, said.
"This milestone demonstrates an aggressive initiative to keep our patients safe and now offer this technology and medical practice approach to healthcare systems and payers nationwide." he added.
The system enables patients to securely store and instantly access their preferred medical choices worldwide, within five seconds, using secure QR codes to retrieve the information. According to the company, this aims to minimise confusion and reduce the likelihood of medical errors, allowing for decisions aligned with the patient's wishes even in urgent or critical scenarios.
As part of US Acute Care Solutions, MIDEO's video advance care planning tool was initially made available to employees to support them in the same situations many of their patients experience.
"We see it happen every day. As emergency physicians, we see firsthand the devastating effects that life-and-death situations can have on family members of patients. By getting MIDEO through our benefits plan, our clinicians and employees can plan ahead to prevent the worst outcomes when lives are on the line." Dr. Amer Aldeen, Chief Medical Officer of USACS said.
Dr. Mirarchi highlighted the cultural shift that MIDEO seeks to promote in the healthcare industry: "We've now shown this can be done. We normalized the conversation and made it what it should be. We made it about safely thriving through life."
"No one better than our own family of employees, who have witnessed medical disasters firsthand, knows how broken this process of advance directives really is. And this is the difference, not just for them, but for their families too. We encourage employers to do the same. Especially the health systems and insurance entities that are major players in this space." he added.
MIDEO Health offers a range of advance care planning options, including self-guided alternatives and comprehensive, physician-led planning with continuous support. All plans remain compliant with privacy regulations and are designed to be transportable and accessible from any location.
MIDEO reports that it has assisted patients in 45 US states and five countries with their video-based advance care plans, aiming to deliver clarity and confidence for both patients and clinicians by ensuring that patient preferences can be easily communicated and respected in healthcare settings.
