TechDay has introduced updated headshot submission standards, outlining clear requirements for contributors providing images for bylines, op-eds and press materials.

The update is intended to maintain visual consistency and uphold a professional standard across its editorial platforms.

Framing rules

Images must show the subject centred within the frame, with enough space above the head.

Subjects should be photographed from the chest, waist or mid-torso upward, with shoulders fully visible and naturally positioned.

Cropping must not cut off any part of the head or place the subject too close to the edges of the frame.

Pose guidance

Subjects should face forward or at a slight angle, with eyes directed towards the camera.

Posture should be upright and relaxed, with minimal head tilt.

Expressions should appear professional and approachable.

Background setup

Headshots must use a clean, uncluttered background that keeps the subject clearly visible.

Acceptable backgrounds include plain studio settings, office environments or softly blurred scenes.

Busy locations, signage and strong visual patterns are not permitted.

Lighting quality

Lighting must be even and clearly illuminate the subject's face.

Images must be sharp, high-resolution and properly exposed.

Blurry, overly bright, dark or heavily filtered submissions will not meet the standard.

Clothing standards

Subjects must wear professional or business-appropriate clothing.

Solid colours or subtle patterns are preferred. Prominent logos should be avoided unless required for branding.

Hair and grooming should appear neat and presentation-ready.

Image style

Images should appear natural and align with a professional editorial style.

Excessive editing is discouraged, and the subject's face should remain the focal point.

Group images

Group photos must include all individuals fully within the frame, with no cropped features.

Subjects should be evenly spaced, face the camera and maintain consistent posture.

Backgrounds must remain clean and non-distracting, with balanced lighting across all faces.

Wardrobe choices should be coordinated to maintain a consistent appearance.

Submission specifications

Headshots for byline submissions must be provided as separate file attachments, not embedded within documents.

Images must meet the platform's standard 1200 × 677 pixel format.
