Verizon Business ranked first in customer satisfaction among large enterprises and medium-sized businesses in the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Business Internet Satisfaction Study, ending a multi-year run by another provider at the top of the large enterprise category.

The study assessed business internet satisfaction in the United States as companies place heavier demands on networks through artificial intelligence projects and real-time data use. Verizon said that pressure on service providers has weighed on satisfaction levels across the industry, particularly among larger organisations with more complex network requirements.

The ranking gives Verizon Business a notable position in a market where corporate buyers closely watch customer retention and service quality. Large enterprises and medium-sized businesses typically buy internet services under longer contracts, and survey standings can influence procurement reviews and renewal decisions.

Ranking shift

According to the announcement, Verizon Business displaced an incumbent that had held the top position for several years. While the text provided did not disclose scoring details, Verizon framed the result as evidence that its service performance resonated with customers in both market segments covered by the survey.

The result comes as enterprise customers face rising expectations for network reliability, responsiveness and support. Businesses running data-heavy applications, cloud workloads and artificial intelligence systems are placing greater strain on fixed connectivity, increasing scrutiny of providers' ability to maintain service levels.

For telecom groups serving corporate accounts, business internet products remain a core source of revenue and a gateway to broader sales in security, mobility and managed services. Strong customer satisfaction scores can therefore carry commercial weight beyond broadband connectivity alone.

Service demands

Verizon Business operates in a competitive U.S. market where large companies often compare providers on uptime, installation experience, account management and issue resolution. A change at the top of a high-profile customer study is likely to draw attention from rivals and procurement teams reviewing supplier performance.

Verizon linked the study's backdrop to the growing complexity of corporate technology environments. Artificial intelligence initiatives in particular are increasing bandwidth needs and creating new demands for low-latency, resilient network connections, while real-time analytics tools require consistent performance across distributed operations.

That context has made customer experience a more visible differentiator for telecom providers. While price remains important in contract negotiations, larger businesses often place significant value on dependable service and effective support when outages or performance issues affect operations.

Satisfaction pressure

Verizon said the study captured a period when industry satisfaction metrics were under pressure. In that environment, its top placement in both categories marked a shift in competitive standings in U.S. business internet services.

"Evolving artificial intelligence initiatives and real-time data tools are placing unprecedented strain on customer networks, challenging industry-wide satisfaction metrics for large enterprises," said Verizon.
