Winsted brings Viking control room console to DistribuTECH

Wed, 28th Jan 2026

Winsted plans to show its new Viking console line for utility and transmission control rooms at DistribuTECH 2026, alongside display technology specialist Barco Control Rooms.

The company said the Viking line targets utility and process control room environments, where operators work continuous shifts and equipment remains in service around the clock. Winsted will show the consoles at Booth #1913 as a co-exhibitor with Barco Control Rooms.

Control room furniture has become a more visible procurement category for utilities and grid operators as they expand monitoring and automation. Many teams now manage a mix of legacy systems and newer digital platforms from the same room. Vendors in the space increasingly focus on installation, service access, and physical integration with displays and operator peripherals.

Winsted said Viking uses welded tube-steel frame construction. The company described the design as seismically rated. It also said the product targets stability and serviceability, alongside ergonomics for extended shifts.

TECH-Wall System

A central feature of the Viking range is Winsted's TECH-Wall system. The company said the system integrates power and connectivity through a configurable dash panel.

Winsted listed integrated power and data connectivity among the available options. It also referenced operator cooling fans and status lighting. The company positioned the approach as a way to keep frequently used connections and controls within reach on the console.

Viking also includes a four-tier cable management system, according to Winsted. The company said the system allows organised routing and access to cabling and components. It said the arrangement simplifies installation and follow-on servicing.

Winsted framed the product around endurance in operational environments where outages and maintenance windows can carry high costs. "Utility and Process Control rooms require solutions that are built to perform continuously under demanding and high-stress conditions," said Shawn Brady, Vice President of Product Development, Winsted.

"Viking is engineered to support long-term reliability, operational efficiency, and operator comfort, while providing the flexibility that utilities need as technology and workflows evolve. DistribuTECH is an ideal venue to demonstrate how Viking meets those requirements," said Brady.

Partner Exhibits

Winsted said it will also show its Pinnacle Console platform at Survalent's Booth #5025. Survalent supplies systems used in utility control rooms, including supervisory control and data acquisition environments.

Winsted said the Pinnacle platform includes a sliding worksurface that reveals a technology tray. The company described that area as space for cable management, technology storage, and power and data connectivity.

The multiple booth presence signals a focus on joint demonstrations with control room technology suppliers, rather than a standalone furniture display. These pairings often centre on physical layout planning, screen sightlines, power distribution, and the way consoles accommodate computing equipment, network cabling and peripheral devices.

Winsted said it designs and manufactures products in the United States. It also cited compliance with the Build America, Buy American Act. The company supplies consoles, technology cabinets, raised floors, equipment racks, and related technical furniture for control rooms across sectors including utilities, transport and public safety.

At DistribuTECH, Winsted's Viking display will place the new line in front of utility engineering and operations teams evaluating control room upgrades and new build-outs, as vendors and users weigh resilience requirements, evolving operator workflows and integration with display and control systems.
