Lenovo partners Eyesafe for safer Chromebooks in schools

Tue, 28th Jan 2025

Lenovo will equip its Chromebooks for K-12 students with Eyesafe Blue Light Screen Protectors to support students' eye health, sleep and academic performance.

The announcement is part of a strategic collaboration between Eyesafe and Lenovo to provide these protective measures to millions of students over the next two years. Eyesafe supplies blue light filtering solutions globally, and Lenovo holds a prominent position in the technology sector.

Eyesafe Screen Protection is specifically developed to diminish blue light exposure while enhancing visual comfort and maintaining the vibrancy of screen colours. Both companies express a shared commitment towards fostering healthier and more comfortable learning environments nationwide.

With the increasing incorporation of digital devices in classrooms and homes, students are now exposed to elevated levels of blue light. This rise in exposure is particularly concerning for children, whose developing eyes are more penetrative to blue light due to their physiology.

Research has demonstrated that blue light exposure, especially at night, can disrupt sleep patterns. This disruption can potentially lower students' alertness, concentration, memory, and academic performance the following day.

Lenovo 3PO, a programme under Lenovo's initiative offering technology solutions globally, will begin providing Eyesafe Blue Light Screen Protectors pre-installed on Chromebooks. This implementation is to commence immediately.

The Eyesafe Screen Protectors use patented technology to selectively filter wavelengths between 435-440 nanometers. This range is recognised by global standards organisations for posing significant risks to retinal health. The filtration technology is designed to ensure optimal blue light protection while retaining vibrant screen colours.

The Eyesafe technology is backed by third-party certification from TÜV Rheinland and supported by a global board of eye care professionals, emphasising its foundation in scientific research and its focus on student wellness.

Justin Barrett, CEO and Co-Founder of Eyesafe, said, "Eyesafe is committed to providing solutions that support the wellbeing of students and enhance their learning outcomes. Our collaboration with Lenovo enables us to equip schools with screen protectors that help protect students from blue light, thereby potentially enhancing focus and academic success."

This partnership also addresses a critical need for schools to safeguard their investments in technology. By reducing blue light exposure, Eyesafe Screen Protection can increase the durability of Chromebooks by mitigating the risks of scratches, smudges, and unintentional damage. This additional protection may assist schools in reducing repair and replacement costs, supporting a more cost-effective and sustainable use of technology.

The Eyesafe Blue Light Screen Protectors will be made available for Chromebooks in K-12 schools starting immediately, with schools encouraged to investigate the advantages of integrating blue light-filtering technology in their educational settings.
