Siemens named as leader in manufacturing systems by IDC

Today

Siemens Digital Industries Software has been recognised as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) 2024–2025 Vendor Assessment.

The IDC MarketScape report evaluates vendors in the manufacturing execution systems market catering to the needs of the manufacturing sector. Siemens' recognition highlights the company's advancements in providing integrated MES technology to a global clientele.

Tobias Lange, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Operations Management, Digital Manufacturing, Siemens Digital Industries Software, expressed the company's enthusiasm about this achievement. He stated, "The recognition of Siemens as a Manufacturing Execution System leader in the IDC MarketScape report, we believe, highlights our fast pace of innovation to provide our customers with world-class integrated Manufacturing Execution Systems technology. Our continued commitment to delivering open, configurable, easily deployable and inherently scalable software is truly benefitting customers across the globe."

Siemens' MES solution, Opcenter, is built to support multi-plant architectures. This feature reduces the operational burden on regional IT teams while lowering the total cost of ownership. Integration capabilities with other Siemens Xcelerator industrial software solutions enhance Opcenter's functionality. It seamlessly connects with tools such as Teamcenter for Product Lifecycle Management, Simcenter for simulation activities, Insights Hub for analytics, and the Tecnomatix software suite for factory simulation.

Siemens has introduced Opcenter X to support small and medium enterprises in their digital transformation initiatives. This iteration leverages cloud computing and offers software as a service (SaaS), thereby reducing the time and financial barriers faced by businesses in adopting Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) capabilities.

Lorenzo Veronesi, Associate Research Director, IDC Manufacturing Insights, commented on the evolving requirements of manufacturing systems. He noted, "The need for shop floor processes to coordinate with rapidly evolving value chains requires that MES work seamlessly with other enterprise and manufacturing-focused applications to ensure visibility from the shop floor to the top floor. Innovation drivers such as cloud computing, edge analytics, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and artificial intelligence (AI), is significantly influencing the development of MES."
