AlethianAI unveils platform to help providers amid USD $5bn cuts

Fri, 26th Sep 2025

AlethianAI has launched its agentic AI healthcare platform aiming to support Washington State healthcare providers facing cuts in Medicaid funding.

The Bellevue-based company announced that its platform is designed to automate clinical workflows in their entirety, integrating processes such as patient intake, documentation, medical coding, scheduling, and patient engagement into one AI-driven system.

The deployment of this end-to-end system comes as Washington's Apple Health Medicaid programme, which currently insures close to two million residents, is set to be affected by recent federal legislation that could reduce funding by between USD $3 billion and USD $5 billion annually. Healthcare providers, especially those serving rural and underserved populations, may soon face increased pressure to do more with fewer resources.

Automating administration

The AlethianAI platform is designed to operate in compliance with HIPAA data privacy standards. By enabling features such as live documentation and eliminating after-hours charting requirements, the company states the platform seeks to reduce administrative overhead and enhance provider efficiency. This can help practices remain financially viable while continuing to deliver care to vulnerable populations.

"Our mission is to give time back to providers for caregiving, and ensure patients continue receiving high-quality services even under financial and staffing pressures," said Moghis Uddin, CEO and founder of AlethianAI. "By streamlining every step of the clinical workflow, AI-powered automation helps Washington's health systems weather reimbursement cuts while improving access, efficiency, and outcomes."

Current trends indicate that clinicians spend a significant proportion of their working hours on administrative tasks rather than direct patient care. Surveys have shown that up to half of working hours can be consumed by tasks such as electronic health record (EHR) navigation, billing, and compliance. This shift away from patient care has been cited as a contributing factor to provider burnout.

Practitioner feedback

Medical professionals trialling the AlethianAI platform have reported improvements in both workflow and the quality of patient care. Dr. Teja Mehendale, MD, described the impact on day-to-day operations:

"AlethianAI has transformed the way I practice. It streamlines my workflow, sets clear expectations for each visit, and allows me to be fully present with patients. I'm spending less time on paperwork and more time in meaningful conversations, which has elevated both the efficiency of my practice and the quality of care I provide."

Sustainability challenges

The financial outlook for healthcare providers in Washington is uncertain amid the latest Medicaid changes. Hospitals and clinics, particularly in rural communities, may need to adopt new strategies to cope with possible funding shortfalls. Automation solutions such as those provided by AlethianAI are posited as one possible buffer to help providers maintain operations and patient services during this period of transition.

The company plans to focus initially on practices in Bellevue and Seattle, with the intention of scaling up upon demonstrating effective results in supporting provider sustainability and patient care.
