Grata has integrated its Model Context Protocol server with Perplexity Computer, bringing Grata's private market data into Perplexity's AI research platform.

The integration gives shared customers access to Grata's data on more than 22 million companies from within Perplexity Computer. They can use it for research, sourcing, market mapping and investment work without switching systems.

Users can draw on Grata's information on ownership structures, executive contacts, seller intent signals and deal comparables alongside Perplexity's web-based information. This lets them combine public and proprietary sources in a single workflow.

Grata says its data is compiled from foundational company information, private sources, proprietary network data, transaction intelligence and human verification. More than 600 research analysts validate the dataset.

Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is a framework that lets AI tools connect with external data sources and software. Here, it allows Perplexity Computer users to query Grata's private company information directly inside the platform.

Andrew Bocskocsky, executive vice president, private markets intelligence at Datasite, said source data quality is becoming more important as AI takes a larger role in deal work.

"As AI becomes central to private market workflows, the quality of the underlying data determines the quality of the outcome," Bocskocsky said. "Perplexity has built an exceptional platform for turning information into finished work. By bringing Grata's proprietary private market intelligence into that experience, we're enabling investors, bankers, consultants, and corporate development teams to move beyond publicly available information and generate insights they can act on with confidence."

Workflow access

Perplexity Computer is one of a growing number of AI environments that support Grata's MCP connection. Its connector also works with Blueflame AI, ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and Grok, reflecting a broader push to place its datasets inside the tools deal professionals already use.

That approach reflects a wider shift in financial and advisory work, as software providers embed specialised data directly into AI assistants instead of requiring users to log into separate databases. For firms involved in mergers and acquisitions, private equity and strategy consulting, that can reduce the steps needed to build target lists, compare companies or examine ownership and management structures.

According to Grata, the Perplexity integration can support tasks including identifying acquisition or investment targets in a given market, building market maps across fragmented sectors, constructing comparable company sets for financial modelling, and finding strategic buyers or sponsor-backed businesses.

Users can also research executives, ownership structures and investment themes while combining Grata's private market intelligence with current news and broader web research in a single analysis.

Jeff Grimes, head of live events at Perplexity, said the integration gives users direct access to a dataset not generally available through standard web search.

"Grata has built one of the most rigorously verified datasets on private companies anywhere, backed by a team of more than 600 research analysts who validate the data other platforms simply don't have," Grimes said. "In Computer, that means dealmakers can research a target, map a market, and build a comp set with proprietary intelligence woven directly into their work, without leaving the platform or standing up a separate connector."

Private data

Private market intelligence has become a more contested area as AI tools spread across finance and professional services. Public companies generate large volumes of easily searchable information, but privately held businesses are often harder to track because changes in ownership, finances and management are less visible.

That gap has created a market for specialised data providers that compile information from filings, transactions, networks, research teams and direct verification. Grata's pitch is that verified private company data can improve the quality of AI-generated research by giving systems access to information beyond public websites and general search results.

Grata is part of Datasite, which also owns Blueflame AI and provides tools used across private market transactions. The integration with Perplexity extends Grata's distribution beyond its own interface into third-party AI products used by bankers, investors, consultants and corporate development teams.

Grata MCP is now available to Grata customers on AI platforms that support custom MCP connectors.
